In the last 12 months, I removed Facebook from my phone a few times.
It usually goes like this: I install it and I’m only using it for “important stuff” such as events I want to get to, my own business page and connecting to local groups. But week by week, my time spent on it increases to the point I actually surf without consciously deciding. And you know those times where you’re on the toilets, in transport or waiting in a queue….
But what did we do in the “olden days” (my boys refer to the 90s as the olden days: ahahahah)?
When I realize that I’m abusing the surfing, I remove it. For the first few days, my fingers are still, mechanically, searching for the F flag with no luck. And that’s when my conscious mind connects… Shocking! It only lasts a few days and then the habit goes away.
I’m not proud to share this but I feel it’s the story of too many. I decided to help myself by removing the temptation. It’s a real addiction.
Ok so here are the facts: we are, on average, using our phone 4 hours per day. This means 1460 hours per year and this is a quarter of the waking hours on mobile devices.
We are very quickly in auto-pilot mode and this is why I’ve created today’s video which is called “Are you in charge?”

In this video, I’m sharing my STH (Strict Technology Hygiene). I make sure I am in charge when it comes to using the phone.
I now removed youtube, facebook and removed most of what was on my phone.
It makes my life a little more difficult since I can only connect via desktop but it certainly helps me make sure I’m not wasting my time (and brain) on unnecessary information overload.
The key is to use this tool for the right purpose because it’s incredible to get access to the best events, connect to amazing like-minded people and access anything we want in a few clicks.
Most of the day I have the phone with me as in case school needs to contact me but when I’m with the kids, I hide it away so I’m not tempted. I take it out of my bedroom and it definitely improves my nights and mornings.
I hope this video will help you get closer to the best you.
